Got any suggestions for some really good bands that people just don't give credit to or haven't heard? I would love some new tunes.

Idkenefick,

Here are some of my favorite local LA-area bands that haven't really blown up yet but are amazing if you ask me... I've seen all these bands live and they all put on GREAT live shows.... They play local venues fairly often so check em out if you get a chance...

West Indian Girl
http://www.myspace.com/westindiangirl
(Tripped-out psychadelic electronic dance POP jams... and probably my 3rd favorite band after Radiohead and Flaming Lips)

The Softlightes
http://www.myspace.com/thesoftlightes
(very melodic indie pop, fun visual live show)

The Bird and the Bee
http://www.myspace.com/thebirdandthebee
(retro-styled, very melodic dream pop)

The 88
http://www.myspace.com/the88
(Indie power-pop)

Great Northern
http://www.myspace.com/greatnorthern
(emo indie rock)

The Frequency
http://www.myspace.com/thefrequencymusic

(loud, energetic indie alt-rock, fun shows)

The Little Ones
http://www.myspace.com/wearethelittleones
(fun, indie alt-folk-rock)

The Parson Redheads
http://www.myspace.com/redheads
(psychadelic indie folk, sometimes will have a dozen or more people on stage playing)

The Clean Prophets
http://www.myspace.com/thecleanprophets
(indie alt-rock)

The Watson Twins
http://www.myspace.com/thewatsontwins
(indie folk)

There's this band out of Silverlake called the Airbourne Toxic Event that I've seen play live a couple of times and like a lot. They're alternative rock, but have an interesting mix of classical strings instruments. Still unsigned band.

not so underground anymore....

Peeps, absolutely go listen to these unsigned acts. So extremely addictive!

To Have Heroes

and

MWK (stands for MidWest Kings)

Both projects are fronted by singer Andy Skib, he of a particularly haunting and unforgettable voice. He rolls indie and romantic on the To Have Heroes tunes, his current solo project … but also takes on this dark, edgy rock tip for his MWK gig.

Both projects are smartly written, richly layered, wondrously orchestrated.

MWK songsmith Neal Tiemann's guitar work on "Luna Despierta" is brilliant, and drummer Josh Center gets inventive with the beats.

To have a listen in 'Space:

myspace.com/tohaveheroes

myspace.com/mwkmusic

To Have Heroes tunes are excellent when you're in a mellow or reflective mood. Perfect for the road.

MWK's "Luna Despierta" calls for a cold one and a grass seat under a full moon with the iPod at top decibels.

All are ridiculously radio ready. Have no idea why this guy is yet unsigned.

Forgot to add: Skib is doing a string of shows around Cali, where he's based now, and one show in Tulsa, his hometown, in the next few weeks. Check his To Have Heroes page for the sked.
