My first concert? Well I don't know to be honest what to consider my first real concert. I saw a spanish rock band by the name of Jaguares when I was 5 years old, at the Greek Theater here in Los Angeles. I remember being there with my parents, aunt, and grandmother. I also remember wandering around by myself where the ramps where. It was empty for some reason.
Other than that, my first concert that I picked was Kiss in 2000 on my tenth birthday. It was such an awesome way to spend my b-day. My parents took me (considering they're metal heads), and it was just a spectacle. Amazing lights, awesome music, crazy effects and on-stage antics, followed by a cake and new skateboard when I got home.

My first concert was the 2001 San Diego Street Scene. So I think I was about 12. My mom took me and my friend and I camped out all day at the main stage for outkast and my mom couldn't hang and went with her friend to go see something else. Honestly, it was kind of freaky especially during POD and Offspring when the crowd started moshing, but it was worth it especially considering it was one of Outkasts last shows unless they start touring again. I really don't remember much especially of the bands before Outkast. I remember Andre came out in some white feathery outfit and a big floppy hat and maybe a little mask around his eyes? It was something strange I remember that much. Can't remember the set list really well except B.O.B. which made the crowd go nuts (as well it should). Pretty crazy first concert.

My first contest was Britney Spears....LOL. i was i think 16 living in Pennsylvania and saw the show in Hershey. It was actually a funny experience because a fight practically broke out between 2 crazy mothers. The one lady was yellling at the other mom in front telling her to sit down because their were seats. So the mom got pissed and threw water at the other lady and it just got crazy. My friend and I were sitting in back of them witnessing it all and cracking up because it was a Britney Spears concert. Anyways, the show was entertaining but I definitely would never go to a Britney concert again in my life.

my first show....oh man i've been to so many it's hard to remember. ahh...Green Day. it was my 16th birthday & my first "real" concert. i invited a bunch of my friends. i remember there was this one lady who had bumper stickers on her butt and kept getting in fights with everyone. anyways it was a sweet concert. Billie Joe's son came out and they played some songs they don't usually play. :)

What I consider to be my first concert: I was around 4 years old and my babysitter cancelled on my parents so they ended up taking me to see WHAM! in Hawaii. I don't remember much since I was so small, but I remember being up on my Dad's shoulders, most of the time, and once the end of the show came around I was passed out with my body falling over his shoulders.
If I wouldn't have said that concert, I would say when I was 13 I went to see Jewel in Kansas City, KS. I went with my best friend and our Mom's. We played her Cd's all the way there and back. We danced and sang the whole night. She was so interactive with the crowd and I remember this girl who sat next to us kept trying to make out with my friend, who's a girl. So we had to switch places with our Mom's. The one song I remember the best is "You Were Meant For Me" ... she messed up and had to start over and then she sang a more vulger version than the Cd and our Mom's were really surprised, cause they didn't want us listening to it. She wasn't so much vulger, but crude.

So um, my first concert was back in 1995. I was 16, and um, yeah. It was a triple header if I ever saw one. Boyz II Men, TLC, and Montell Jordan. This is how we dooooo itttttttttttttttttt.
Man. It was at Irvine MEADOWS, and we had literal lawn seats. We took my mom's CARAVAN to the show--Six of us girls! We put signs on the windows that said "Boyz II Men or BUST". We were soooooo lame. I would have laughed at us if I saw me today.
There were nasty drunk people all around us making out and stuff. People were even lighting up around us. WHO KNEW? To Boyz II Men??!!! The bummer of the night was that TLC called in sick, so it turned out to just be a Montell Jordan/Boyz II Men show. We got some MotownPhilly, On Bended Knee, even I'LL MAKE LOVE TO YOU! But man. Who could resist End of the Road?! I MELTED. GLORIOUS HARMONIES!!
Thank you Jesus, I now have better musical tastes. No one ever believes me when I tell them that was my first concert ever. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Boyzzzzzz...

My first concert was Dj Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince @ the San Joaquin county fair. $7 to get in and they did two shows. Rare, rare performance right there. I would beg Goldenvoice for a reunion @ Coachella, but there isnt enough money in the world to get them to do it. Well Jazzy Jeff could do a dj set (he rocks actually, even back then) , but whoever that Fresh Prince guy was has slipped into obscurity.

ok so this is my story and I am sticking to it ...
the first rock and roll show I ever went to was in the spring of 64
there were not many places in Denver to see people
but it was getting better and better
just 4 short years later, about 7 miles from this show
led zeppelin would play in their first usa show
the Denver coliseum
I was lucky to be there
but that was later and I was
in the air force and nam was going on
and things were different
anyway I digress ..... spring of 64
me and two buds take the Colfax bus 15
(did you know that Colfax is the longest street or ave which ever in the usa)
so we take the bus from Aurora, a suburb of Denver
to downtown Denver ....
there are news stories, national ones at that about that bus route,
but all is well ... we get downtown to the show
this was the first Denver show to feature the British Invasion I believe
opening band ...
Chad and Jeremy
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j211/canexplain/chadandj.jpg
Peter and Gordon ....
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j211/canexplain/oldpic1.jpg
and Johnny Rivers
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j211/canexplain/jrivers.jpg
there still was some snow on the ground, being that early in Denver
but we were hyped for the show
now Johnny Rivers might have been the biggest artist
with his Secret Agent Man song out ... there was a TV series on at that time that used
that song in the intro and all of the "cool" dudes at school
were reading the new James Bond ...
like the OC now, it really made that song big ... but ... we had hair like the English groups
we didn't want to see some "rock and roll star" from years ago ...
Bring on the Brits
of course both Chad and Jeremy and Peter and Gordon went from folk to Byrd sort of rock
and we loved it ... Johnny came out and did his thing .. the girls loved him ...
I would guess the show ended by 1000, but we hopped back on the Colfax RT 15
back to Aurora, knowing that just about 6 blocks from the show
the Beatles would be at the Brown Palace Hotel staying there before their show
we would see them up there on the upper floor, waving
then
off to The Beatles at Red Rocks
I will always remember
not for the music which is kind of sad
but just being there .... oh I digress .... cr****

The year was 1985 in Orange County, CA and I looked like this:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h317/KenMixtape/ken1984.jpg.jpg
I had my mom drive me to Irvine Meadows Ampitheater so I could go see Frankie Goes To Hollywood & The Untouchables. As you can see I was pretty much the nerd, so I didn't have anyone to go with.
http://www.multinet.no/~jonarne/Hjemmesia/Favorittartister/frankie_goes_to_hollywood/frankie_goes_to_hollywood_6.jpg
It was my first concert, and I was pretty impressed. I didn't quite know at the time I was gay, but the fact that I was so into Frankie Goes To Hollywood should have been a clue. The sensation of seeing them live, with their shiny guitars and big sound unleashed a wealth of forbidden pleasure. I danced probably the entire time (but I had to wait til everyone else was dancing before I dared).
If you listen to Love & Rockets' "Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven", it describes this feeling perfectly.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h317/KenMixtape/fgth1985.jpg
Afterwards, my mom picked me up and I told her all about it. I'm sure it must have been cause for alarm.

The first concert I ever saw was Tiffany. I must've been in the first grade at the time and was at Busch Gardens with my mother and my sister and her friend. We ended up in the second row, and all I remember is that she waved at me and the show was really short. Not even in a mall, lolz.
But the first concert I picked and can actually remember? The triple bill of Bush, Goo Goo Dolls, and No Doubt at the Hampton Coliseum. It was February 1996 and living in Hampton, VA (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hampton%2C+va), a hell that could not decide whether it was an industrial and military ghetto or a redneck suburb. So the town, along with the rest of the surrounding area, was (and still is) culturally devoid and if you wanted to see 90% of the great bands big and small, you had to make the four hour trip to the D.C. area. All this background information is necessary to emphasize how big of a deal this concert was. Not much came through town, but when something did, it was crazy, especially since Bush had dominated the radio over the past year with all their (generic) hit singles.
Not having anything to do before the show but wait in line (the arena was sandwiched between one of the 1000 local abandoned department stores and housing projects), I noticed almost all of the kids that listened to rock music from my high school were there: twelve or so. Being socially inept and friendless, I just stuck with my group, until the local "modern rock" station showed up. They were giving away exclusive Bush t-shirts, and I just had to get one. Unfortunately, hundreds of other kids had the same idea of rushing the van, so the obnoxious dj cursed us all, threw a box on the ground, and got back in the van and drove off while the box was ripped to shreds. No t-shirts, just a box of Goo Goo Clusters candy. Lame.
Once inside, two in our group opted to go on the floor, while the rest of us found seats at the top of the arena. You know a town has problems when people are moshing and throwing each other high into the air before any bands actually play. First up was No Doubt, and their single "Just a Girl" had recently debuted on the local stations. Gwen Stefani's voice sounded horrendous live, but they had energy so that made them the best act of the night.
Next up were the Goo Goo Dolls, their wuss-rock ballad "Name" being known by all. And the moshing did not stop. Seriously, moshing to the Goo Goo Dolls? How is that possible? The most memorable, and entertaining, part of the evening happened during "Name": I was scoping out the crowd looking for cute girls, and saw one against the wall on the level below, and she looked up at me, and then closed her eyes and rolled her head towards the sky. What the? Why was she facing me and not the band? I leaned forward and saw her boyfriend's head. And...a whole lot more. They were having sex, you see. Either I caught them at the end or he was a two pump chump because they were done and gone by the end of the set.
Finally came Bush. They sounded terrible live: music was sloppy but not in a good way, and Gavin sounded worse than his future girlfriend. I know the acoustics in the old arena are infamously bad (Forum bad), but you can only use that excuse to a limited extent. Between all the smoke (arena was so full of smoke from machines, pot, meth, crack and especially cigarettes, that I couldn't see shit by that point and being deathly allergic, I couldn't breathe. So we left before the encore of "Everything Zen", which we heard in the parking lot, and then met up with the moshers in our group and went home. My sister's friend actually lost his shoe in the pit. Pwnd.
Didn't get home until 1am, and I was supposed to wake up at 5am for a field trip to D.C., but instead missed two days of school from getting so sick from being around all that smoke. It's a wonder I ever went to another concert. The next was Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage six months later at the same arena. My high school graduation was at that arena, too.

I grew up in Hermosa Beach, California. Its a beach community in the South Bay part of Los Angeles county. Punk rock has a HUGE influence on (and is very deeply rooted in) this community. The South Bay has produced such legendary punk bands as Black Flag, Pennywise and the Circle Jerks. Being a product of the community, my first musical infatuation was punk rock.
As a young man with a skateboard, I was able to get myself to many (many) local punk rock shows, to support the local scene. It wasn't until I was 16 and able to drive that I attended my first real concert: Warped Tour 1996, Olympic Velodrome @ Cal State Dominguez Hills.
This show was amazing. I was able to see live performances from so many of my favorite bands (at that time). I remember Blink (before they added 182), The Descendants, Social Distortion, Pennywise, and The Vandals. I remember totally embracing the shows. I rocked out, crowd surfed, moshed, sang along and got disgustingly dirty and sunburned...all in the name of music!
During The Vandals set, they did a cover of Summer Lovin. Guess who came out and sang the female vocal part? None other than a not-yet-so-famous Gwen Stefani! She looked beautiful, not overdone, just cute and punkish...sunglasses and hair pulled back under a scarf.
Pennywise closed the show, and I was proud to be a part of their giant, swirling mosh pit. I remember seeing some other guys from my high school standing on the sidelines, and thinking what pussies they were. After Pennywise I wandered up to the Epitaph Records merch booth, and who was sitting there, casually talking to people like it was nothing.....Gwen! She talked with me and my bro for a few minutes...asking us if we had seen some group of porn stars who were filming wandering around the show. Totally chill, no bullshit.
Leaving the venue, I couldn't find the car. I must have wandered for at least an hour. In the parking lot I saw what remains to me, the most brutal girl fight I have ever seen. Finally I found my truck, with my buddies already in it and headed home...totally spent.
I remember my mind being completely blown, and being hooked on large scale rock concerts. I've been to so many at this point that the memories have begun to blur...but I will never forget my experiences at that first Warped Tour.

My first concert was in March of 1989. R.E.M. at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati. Green had been released a few months earlier, and I was just starting to discover the music that I still love today: The Smiths, Elvis Costello, The Replacements, New Order, The Cure, all that stuff. I lived in a small town two hours north of Cincinnati, where people's musical tastes ran, at the time, toward either Garth Brooks or Guns 'n' Roses. There weren't any local venues to see good music, and at the age of sixteen, there wasn't any way my parents were going to let me travel two hours to Cincinnati or Columbus to see any club shows. So I listened to a lot of music but never really had the chance to see any.
When I heard R.E.M. would be playing the Coliseum, I talked my parents into letting a couple of my friends and I go. We made a special trip to (I think) a J.C. Penney's an hour away to buy tickets from the closest Ticketmaster outlet (actually, it might have still been Ticketron at that point). I knew we weren't going to be front row or anything, but it was my first show, so what did I care?
On the day of the show, my friends and I piled into our minivan, and my dad took the wheel. There wasn't a tape player in the van, so we had a boombox in the back seat and listened to Robyn Hitchcock and The Smiths all the way to Cincinnati. My dad dropped us off and then he took off to go see a movie while we were at the concert. I think he ended up seeing Lean on Me (the one about the inner-city school principal who carried a baseball bat through the hallways; my dad was a principal himself and was probably looking for inspiration).
Inside the venue, the Indigo Girls had just started their opening set. I didn't know the first thing about them except they were girls playing guitars. I was a hip little guy, but not really hip enough to care about listening to them, so my friends and I wandered the venue, buying shirts and checking out the other fans.
We finally made it to our seats and waited for R.E.M. to take the stage. I don't remember much about the gig itself (it's almost twenty years and several hundred shows in the past), but I remember the films the band had playing behind them during the songs. The best was during "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)": it was taken from the passenger's point of view on a ferris wheel, going round and round, faster and faster, as the song progressed. They played most of Green, and I remember that this was during Michael Stipe's kooky hair phase – one of the last times he had actually had hair – kind of a perm on top, shaved sides, and a mullet. He looked different, and to a 16-year-old kid from Cowtown, Ohio, different was all that mattered. It was only a few years later that I could look back on it and realize how stupid it looked.
When the concert ended we wandered the parking garage until we found the minivan. My dad was asleep in the driver's seat, and he hurried to get us home quickly. We all had school tomorrow, and it had been a busy night.

My first concert was in 1997 or 1998. I can't remember and I'm at work, so I can't even look at my ticket collection. :(
It was Third Eye Blind at UC Riverside. I was going to a JC and my friend Melissa attended UCR. So she was able to get us discounted tickets. I remember being so excited because in high school, my friends all got to see Lollapalooza and Green Day. But because my parents were so square, they didn't let me go. Then I started earning an income and I vowed I would go to every concert, financially possible. And I haven't stopped since. My dad still says, "You're going to another concert?"
I remember thinking, "OMG, they're right there!" It was a great show. Towards the end, Stephan broke into a couples verses of Ice Cube's "Today Was a Good Day." It got the crowd riled up. And then he did U2's "I Will Follow." I had a blast!
The only downside was that I lost my bracelet in the crowd. It was this silver link chain bracelet my dad had brought back from his recent trip to Peru for his high school reunion. I was so bummed. My dad is more of a here's-a-check-for-your-birthday kind of guy. But the bracelet he brought back was perfect. Exactly my style and really thoughtful, so it meant a lot to me.
Oh the sacrifices made!

YAY! My first concert was KISS, 1979 Dynasty tour..I was 9. I went with my babysitter, and my Mom had no idea who KISS was.. thanks to her blissful state of ignorance, I then got to then see the OZZY, Blizzard of Oz tour and many other's that probably weren't suitable for someone my age.. Thanks to my mom, my babysitter & KISS.. I have now had a 20+ year relationship with live music.. there is no 12 step program that will help.. THANK GOD! Cheers!

I was 12 years old for my first concert ever: I saw the Monkees at the Universal Amphitheater. I'm pretty sure it was their 30th anniversary tour, and I went with my mother, grandmother, and aunt. Micky Dolenz let the whole audience know that he hoped he'd get laid that night, and it was my first time ever hearing the phrase. I was really disappointed in him when I found out what it meant. I was also really disappointed in his hair, which was all full of gel and pulled back into a tiny ponytail. It also sucked that Mike Nesmith wasn't there, because he was my big celeb crush at the time. I hear that the guy sitting next to my grandma was totally sauced and vomited right there in his seat, but I had no idea (apparently I was too into the show to notice). That night, I bought a t-shirt, a picturebook, and a keychain, and I still have all these, PLUS the ticket stub.

Technically, My first real concert was The Dickies, D.I. and The Ramones in 1987 at Devonshire Downs...my mom bought me two tickets so I could go with my first boyfriend and she drove us there. We were so punk rock! After getting someone to buy us beer, we went into the slam pit (back then they weren't called "mosh" pits) and they were ROUGH! Way more dangerous then they are now. There were people stage diving from the speaker towers into the crowd.
So we jump right in...I go around once...I lost one of my creepers...now I am missing a shoe. crap. I go around again, and miraculously, I manage to find it. I bend down to grab it and as I come up, I get clotheslined by one of the donkeys that always insist on going the opposite way. About to get trampled, an enormous Samoan guy comes to my rescue, grabs me by the back of my shirt and pretty much THROWS me to the sidelines of the pit. And I still had my shoe! But I have no idea where my boyfriend is. Being that I escaped severe bodily injury, I remained on the sidelines of the pit, participating, but still on the lookout for my boyfriend. Suddenly, I see him, and in that exact moment, I also see an elbow connect very firmly with his nose and it pretty much exploded. Nice. He fights his way out, because he can't see anything, and his nose is now pointing oddly to the right. I was, in that moment, made a life long devotee to live shows! And you should have seen the look on my mom's face when she came to get us!
Before that I got to see Kiss at Magic Mountain 1979...I was only 7. It wasn't really a real concert though. My best friend's mom did the costumes for their movie "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park." they held a concert in the parking lot behind colossus for the movie's concert footage. It was great. she worked on the costumes for a few months at her house and I would go over and run around with Gene Simmons' blood stained cape. I was bad ass.

The first concert I ever went to was when I was in the fourth grade. It was Billy Joel at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim in California. We had pretty decent seats, second tier to the left of the stage. Anyhow, I was there with my father and my older brother who was probably a freshman or sophomore in high school at the time. We're all hanging out, having a good time (or at least I was, I was a HUGE Billy Joel fan, I still rock out to "Movin' Out") when I notice that my dad is totally asleep. He's actually snoring during "Piano Man." Anyhow, i should probably mention that he's got a completely bald head, actually he's kind of got a Friar Tuck thing going on on his head. This is important because he's got his big, bald head all the way back, basically on the laps of those behind him, with his mouth completely agape. They're totally weirded out, my brother is laughing his ass off and I'm just staring at the whole scene. By the time the song is winding down, there's a good number of people just staring at my dad. As soon as the final note is played, without skipping a beat, my dad jumps up to his feet and just starts cheering! It was ridiculous and made no sense at all. He was awake and fully into the show for the rest of it, as if he never took a nap at all.

My first show was En Vogue at Magic Mountain. Totally random because we didn't go for it, it was just an end of summer family outing. But when my parents saw there was something for free, we HAD TO GO (we are Mexican after all...). They actually sang really well (or at least really well for my 8 year old ears) and my parents made me run for the free t-shirts they were throwing out (again...Mexican...free...you get the point...)
Other first shows...
First Festival - my boyfriend took me to Lilith Fair and i got to see a lot of lesbians with hairy armpits...i was just starting to come out, so I think this sent me over the edge. Fiona Apple was good, everyone else was blah (including the EX boyfriend...)
First real concert - Garbage at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. ROAD TRIP!! My best friend and i drove there and back the same day (night) and we got the meet the band by waiting several hours after the show. SO worth it. I've seen them about 15 times since that v2.0 tour (favorite band to this day).

1969~ San Diego Sports Arena...I was 9 years old and My Mom made me go... Floor level, center stage, and about 10-15 rows back from the stage...I found myself in the line of fire of flying bras and panties as my mother acted like some jezebel hussy...And all I could think to myself was, "I'm caught in a trap, I can't walk out..." Because ELVIS PRESLEYwas gyrating his ass to a sold out crowd. Since then, I continue going to concerts, acting like a jezebel hussy, and thanking her for that instilled lesson...

The entire experince was bliss and it opened the door to discovering bands like Suede, Pulp, and Elastica.
Elastica was and still is my band of all time...goldenvoice did their shows if remember correctly.
hmmm...i was at all those for sure, including that legendary SOLD OUT first LA gig at the whisky in 95.
good times.
I would like to see gogol bordello and free butt huggers please.
Thanks
Johnny

i think people that have their first stubs should get extra points .... i dont have mine because back then, they didnt have paper, and my stub is a rock which got too heavy to move all the time so i tossed it ...:) cr****
haha, that old? nice ... but if they do get more points than that blows cause i didn't post mine!

OMG..writing that post made me think of Lilith Fair all over again. Check out the lineup for the "Village Stage" (basically the 2nd, 2nd stage).

Can you believe Christina Aguilera, Nelly Furtado and Sara & Tegan (later Tegan & Sara) started out here? Oh well, gotta get back to work...
no way?! i wanted to go to that so bad, but i was too young my mom thought ... super cool.
