What are your favorite record stores?

It's cliche, but Amoeba's the only one I ever care to go into, and even then I usually go kinda nuts because there's so many people.

Also, I haven't paid for a CD in... shit, I dunno, more than five years for sure. Perhaps that makes me a bastard, but I have a rationale for it all actually being good for musicians in the long run.

Rasputin I love even though its only Nor Cal exclusive. Amoeba is a no brainer. I enjoyed going to Arons when it was still open. Penny Lane also (RIP) Backside here in Burbank still has some cool gems every once in a while.

Amoeba. I use Amazon alot.

I just barely uploaded my CD collection onto an external hard drive. This was a New Years commitment to myself before buying any new music though I've broken that promise a couple of times.

Amoeba interests me way more for DVDs and posters than music.

Yeah Penny Lane ruled. I can't believe Westwood got rid of their only record store. I liked Pyramid Music on 3rd St. Promenade too. I got into Aron's way too late so I was never able to take advantage of it.

Aron's :( :( :(

Sigh.

Amoeba can't be beat for vinyl and used stuff. Nothing else matters, so Amoeba it is.

Sea Level Records was great until they decided to close up shop :( They had good in-stores too. Now I mostly just go to Amoeba.

Hey wasn't coachella.com compiling data on people's favorite stores? I feel like there was some survey that asked this, maybe related to that CD giveaway from back in March or April. I would have been interested in hearing what the results of that survey were.

I pretty much go the digital route these days, but I still go to Amoeba to look for used discs, and there are a couple decent shops in Santa Barbara that have used discs and imports that are tough to find elsewhere.

Haha Soulseek! Yes!! I like Amoeba of course. I love Second Spin but haven't been there in a while. Maybe I'll go this weekend!

Amoeba is king. Second Spin is alright, but their selection lacks and their bins are too crowded, making it difficult to search (at least the Santa Monica one is like that).

There's really not that many record shops around Los Angeles any more. The only one I go to is Amoeba. I buy albums off amazon.com a lot.

Target puts albums from indie labels at 5.99$ sometimes. Great value!

the only real choice in so cal is amoeba. i like when they put promo cds that arent out yet in the used bins. the sf amoeba is soooo much better. and the berkeley rasputin is amesome. street light records is another good one if you are in the bay area.

most of my music comes from a site i go to a lot though. they put up cds months in advance... l=

Does anyone know of any stores that actually have Pulp albums/singles on vinyl? Never seen any in my countless visits to Amoeba.

I don't know Boourns. Where's vinylmartyr? He would probably be a good person to ask.

Amoeba is probably the best in LA

they've got a huge selection of 99cent vinyls there too

Soundsations in Westchester is decent. I saw Mike Watt hanging out behind the counter last week there so you never know who you may see there. Amoeba is good too.

On April 19, 2008, the nation will celebrate Record Store Day: http://www.yelp.com/ev...

On this day, hundreds of independent record stores across the country, including many in LA, will offer huge sales, in-store performances, book signings and other interesting concepts showcasing the uniqueness that is the local record store.

Sadly we have lost many iconic record shops here in LA, so in the interest of keeping our remaining Indie music retailers alive, feel free to share your favorite with us here on Talk! (If you have reviewed it - even better! Including links along with your posts is r-a-d!)

Support your local record store!

I like going to used CD stores, I have found hard to find cd's in those places and pawn shops are great also, Plus they are a lot cheaper to buy.

Backside Records in Burbank is pretty awesome. They even do the KCRW discount. If you don't have the card, they do 15% off if you pay cash!

The iTunes store. j/k The record store I like is now gone because of the Apple...mostly. It's just safe to blame Apple.
