BLAQK AUDIO @ MAYAN THEATRE 09/27
Every good meal has proper ingredients: A little salt, a little pepper, a dash of oregano... the makings of a zesty soup! Today's meal is called Blaqk Audio, who performed to a sold out audience at the Mayan Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles last Thursday. Use one part keyboards, two parts AFI, add a dash of synths, a suite and tie, one disco ball and some dancing, and what you get is a healthy dose of electronica that will leave any dark clothed individual in need of a second serving.
Taking a break from their main act AFI, Davey Havoc (vocals) and Jade Puget (synths) thought it be fitting to take influences from giants such as Duran Duran, Devo, and Depeche Mode to come up with their own blend of music that is both timeless and original. With a set time of more than 45 minutes, the duo were able to dance through notable tracks off their debut CexCells such as "Stiff Kittens," "Snuff on Digital" and cover of Blur's "Boys and Girls" without taking much time to break.
Through the years I've noticed Havoc has not only become a larger icon, but also increased his vocal abilities by one thousand percent. Even when speaking to the crowd about how this will be their last show under the name Blaqk Audio for a while, you could hear perfect quality production in his voice that would be hard for most musicians to accomplish even with a high-end producer. Clearly by the amount of buzz they've been able to generate in their short life-span, Blaqk Audio is in for a fun future with loyal AFI fans and fellow dance-addicts alike.
