not sure if this fits under Electronica, but does anyone have recommendations for female dance/disco artists (non-Madonna, non-Kylie please...I'm gay so I already know about them...). I don't usually like the girl groups (Pussycat Dolls, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, et al) because I think they're so marketed to try to appeal to every little girl/gay man personality-type (the "crazy" one, the "innocent" one, etc). I like to be marketed to a little less obviously than that, lol.
I have been in love with the new Sophie Ellis Bextor album, but if anyone knows any other chicks in that vein, i'd be happy to hear about them. i've heard that Natalie Imbruglia is pretty good, but the only other song i've heard besides her radio singles was a BRILLIANT song on the "Y Tu Mama Tambien" soundtrack, but i credit that to the lyrics written by the Sneaker Pimps. anyhoo, any info would be much appreciated. thanks!

I love Goldfrapp. Her show at the Fonda and then a year or 2 later at the Wiltern were both amazing. She doesn't tour the states enough! I saw Miss Kittin spinning at the Key Club once and i've heard some of her stuff, i'll have to check out more of it. Thanks for the recommendation on Jes...a little on the trance-y side for my taste, but pretty good. thanks!

Miss Kittin is pretty nice, those techno electro-trash sounds were so sweet when she used to produce with The Hacker. Then, she jumped the minimal bandwagon for a while, but she is back again.

all great electro/dance acts (already into them), i'm thinking more along the lines of disco, something I can listen to in the car with my mom.

lol...any new artists? I'm rereading my first post and maybe I didn't ask the question correctly (though I do appreciate everyone's suggestions).
What I was trying to say is that Sophie Ellis Bextor makes very good, happy, disco music, along the lines of Madonna's "Confessions on the Dancefloor" and Kylie's "Body Language" (both awesome, BTW). These are albums that are fun to listen to, and inoffensive enough to play with family in the car.
I can listen to electro all night long in the club, but when I'm cleaning the house or getting ready to go out, the last thing I want to listen to is my boyfriend's ABBA's Greatest Hits album again (or any of those Disco comps in his collection...barf...at least I've changed his musical tastes in the right direction, he actually has Goldfrapp's Black Cherry and Supernature on his iPod). He's a fan of the lady vocals, but only when accompanied by a 70s/80s/studio 54 feel to it. He likes Sophie Ellis Bextor (finally we agreed on something) and anything else I can add to his iPod to get him away from old Mexican rachero women (Ana Gabriel...Rocio Durcal...trust me, you don't know them unless you're mexican) will be a good thing!

FYI, I LOVE CSS! Saw them open for Ladytron and then I saw them at the Echo. I know they did Coachella and also the Fonda, but I missed them both times. If they ever stop touring, maybe they'll have time to put out a new album.

Last time I saw Ladytron was last year in Dallas. The show was overpopulated by emo kids. I don't have anything against them, but I felt I couldn't breathe. Srsly.
The show was good though. And CSS was amazing!
